A rare handmade Edwardian baby gown, c. 1890, exquisitely sewn from sheer cotton lawn with embroidered net-lace insertions, narrow pintucks, and a long gathered skirt. The high yoke and flowing A-line silhouette embody the late-Victorian style once favored for christenings and portraits.

Every element shows authentic nineteenth-century technique: rolled hems, French seams, natural-cotton thread, and tiny mother-of-pearl buttons at the back—no snaps, zippers, or synthetics. The blend of early machine stitching and careful hand finishing identifies small-atelier craftsmanship from the 1885–1905 transition, as home seamstresses adopted mechanized tools.

Delicate Nottingham-style floral net lace trims the yoke and hem, still supple after over a century.
