This is a *Joruri* book from the late Edo period,
"Keisei Hangonko" (The Courtesan's Prayer for the Soul).

It is one of Chikamatsu Monzaemon's masterpieces,
and is known as a masterpiece of *Gidayu-bushi* (a style of narrative singing)
depicting the love between the painter Ukiyo Matahei and his wife Otoku.

The cover has a weathered look,
the ink-printed characters are powerful, and the texture of the Japanese paper is beautiful.
The printing was done by Harimaya Seishichi, a publisher in Osaka.

The text also contains handwritten red markings and corrections,
suggesting it may have been used as a performance or rehearsal script at the time.

Recommended for those interested in classical performing arts, *Joruri*, and Chikamatsu's literature,
as well as Edo cultural materials and *Wahon* (Japanese book) collectors.

A valuable book that breathes with history and human emotion,
with the authentic scent of Edo.
