This is a TV drama that aired in the Wednesday Theater slot on Fuji TV in 2002. I watched it once and then stored it.
Based on Kazuo Umezu's legendary comic "Drifting Classroom," this drama stars Takako Tokiwa and Yosuke Kubozuka in the double lead roles. Misaki Yuka (Takako Tokiwa), the daughter of a florist, and Akio Asami (Yosuke Kubozuka), a high school teacher, were living peaceful lives. On the day they reunited, they were suddenly transported, along with the school, to a desolate world of the future. It is a desert-like world where water and greenery are lost, and they are forced to endure a harsh survival with the students.
Not only a fight to survive, but also a warning to modern society about environmental destruction, responsibility for the future, and the bonds with others flows at the base of the story. While utilizing the original setting, it also weaves in elements of romance and human drama, creating a poignant and heart-stirring masterpiece.
