Small shot glasses to a huge mixing glass, this is a 1948 set of 16 Barware Externally Etched Glasses in a wraparound line that completely goes from top to bottom of each glass in a circular direction. The etching is a thin incision into the glass. These glasses were called lowballs (as opposed to taller glasses called highballs). There are 7 mini tumblers, 3” tall, 2.75” diameter at the mouth, and 1.75” diameter at the bottom. This could be called a fluted tumbler, because its bottom is so small compared to its mouth. There are 4 maxi fluted tumblers, 4.50” tall, 3.75” diameter at the mouth, and 2” diameter at the bottom. There are 4 classic lowball square shape tumblers, 4” tall, 4” diameter at the mouth, and 3” diameter at the bottom. Then there is one giant lowball classic tumbler, 5.5” tall, 6” diameter at the mouth, and 4” diameter at the bottom. Perhaps this was the mixing glass back in the 1940’s, where the home bartender mixed a gin and tonic and then served it to the party.
