Original handmade Artwork

This is a piece I did recently that was inspired by watching birds fly under the flight path of departing aircraft from a nearby airport. It is constructed of a book cover on which the larger bird is printed, a few clippings one from the book “Johnathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard S. Bach and the aircraft was extracted from a 1950’s National Geographic article. Also you’ll notice gold leafing has been applied to complement the blue to create a brilliant match of color yet a bit of contrast in the way texture comes into play as well as luster of the gold, which photos don’t match the in person effect that it plays. I decided to use this block and line bar of gold to represent clouds, because I felt that doing clouds here would take away from the feeling of flight and the anatomy of a bird in flight. The piece is mounted on a very resinous blackjack pine board that is split, resulting in an open gap behind it. Ready wired for wall mounting, measures close to 11” x 7.25” inches.
