The popular Toby character jugs were launched in 1934, originally as face jugs of more than 600 characters of legend, history and fiction. Designed by Henry Fenton and issued in the 1940's by Royal Doulton, the series "men of History' was launched. One of the characters was Winston Churchill, portrayed here sitting with his black hat, bow tie and cigar - he was known to 'smoke' 8-10 daily; mostly to chew on the cigar rather than smoke it. A charming figure for your Toby collection.
An estate find, the jug is in very good condition with no signs of use; no chips, scratches or repairs noted. The Royal Doulton stamp on bottom was used from 1930-1993. An embossed 8360 model number is on the bottom. Measurements approximate - 9" H and 4.5" base.
