Hand-carved Ashanti (Asante) chief’s stool from Ghana, the traditional symbol of royal authority and the literal “seat of power” for Akan leaders. Stools of this curved form were historically reserved for chiefs and kings and were considered so sacred they were never allowed to touch the ground. This large example (about 24" L x 13" W x 18" H) is carved from a single block of hardwood with five supporting columns and classic lunar crescent seat. Likely mid–20th century, brought from West Africa as traditional art and décor. Deep warm patina and hand-chiseled detail make it perfect for global, wabi-sabi, Boho, or modern organic interiors as a low table, display stand, or sculpture.
Condition: age wear, surface scuffs, and one visible side crack, but the stool is structurally solid and sturdy.
