The MA-1 bomber jacket was originally designed for the U.S. Air Force and Navy pilots in the mid-1950s. It was designed to be lightweight yet warm and durable. The jacket became popular in civilian fashion in the 1960s and has remained a classic style. The Civil Air Patrol (CAP), whose emblem appears on the jacket, is the civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. CAP volunteers perform search and rescue missions, disaster relief, and youth development programs.
